Two computer science alumnae from the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science have been named to TIME’s annual list of 100 pioneers in artificial intelligence.
The TIME100 AI 2025 list includes Yejin Choi, Ph.D. ‘10, in the “Thinkers” category and Maithra Raghu, Ph.D. ’20, in the “Innovators” category.
Choi, currently a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI, is a past MacArthur Fellow and a leading researcher in natural language processing. During her doctoral studies in computer science at Cornell, she was advised by Claire Cardie, the John C. Ford Professor of Engineering in the departments of Computer Science and Information Science.
Raghu is the co-founder and CEO of Samaya AI, a startup launched in 2022 that leverages AI to streamline processes for analysts in the finance industry. As a Cornell doctoral student in computer science, Raghu was advised by Jon Kleinberg, the Tisch University Professor of Computer Science and Information Science.
A third pioneer in TIME’s “Thinkers” category also has connections to Cornell: Regina Barzilay, a professor at MIT, was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell Bowers from 2002 to 2003.
