Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty

- Overview: The Cornell University Department of Computer Science (CS) in the Cornell Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (Bowers) has multiple faculty positions available at its Ithaca campus (tenured and tenure-track). Cornell CS is ranked among the top computer science departments in the country. Ithaca, NY is in the heart of the Finger Lakes region, which offers a vibrant cultural life and a wide range of sporting and outdoor activities with the pleasures of both city and country close at hand.
We welcome applications from all research areas of computer science and closely related disciplines. While this broad search is aimed at identifying exceptional candidates across the field, particular emphasis will be placed on applicants with expertise in Systems, Artificial Intelligence—especially in Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, and AI for Science—Computer Vision and Security. Faculty hired in these positions will be members of the Department of Computer Science, which spans the Ithaca and New York City campuses, but their teaching and research will be based in Ithaca.

This broad search for top talent will be complemented by a particular focus on a set of specific areas identified by the Department and the Cornell Tech campus, with particular attention to systems and security, and in how these areas connect to machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Information Science
The Department of Information Science is home to nearly 40 faculty members who are leaders in their respective fields within the field's interdisciplinary structure, specializing in areas like machine learning, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, ubiquitous computing, user-experience design, tech-law policy, and much more. This year, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research explores the role of computing and AI in education and learning, including in global environments beyond the United States. Outstanding applicants outside this area may also be considered. We seek candidates who bring a range of methodological approaches to bear on research problems, including the design, building, development, theoretical analysis, and application of computing and AI systems to address needs, as well as social science methods to investigate interactions between people and systems. Faculty hired for this Ithaca campus search will have their teaching and research based in Ithaca.
