Mohamed Abdelfattah is an Assistant Professor at Cornell Tech and in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. His research interests include deep learning systems, automated machine learning, hardware-software codesign, reconfigurable computing, and FPGA architecture. Mohamed’s goal is to design the next generation of machine-learning-centric computer systems for both datacenters and mobile devices.

John Abowd is the Edmund Ezra Day Professor Emeritus in Economics, where he also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies, and Statistics and Data Science. Professor Abowd is a member in the graduate fields of Economics, Information Science, Industrial and Labor Relations and Statistics. He is a professor in the department of Information Science as well. He is the Director of the Labor Dynamics Institute at Cornell, an institution whose purpose is to to create and make accessible novel data on the dynamics of the labor markets. 
 

Acharya joined Cornell in August 2016 as an Assistant Professor in the school of Electrical and Computer Engineering, after spending two years as a postdoc at MIT. He was promoted to Associate Professor in June 2022. He obtained his Ph.D. from University of California, San Diego, and a B.Tech degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

Rachit Agarwal is an associate professor of computer science. His primary research interests are in systems and networking. He is also interested in theoretical problems arising out of building practical systems. Agarwal’s research has been awarded a Sloan Research Fellowship, an NSF CAREER award, a Kavli Fellowship with the National Academy of Sciences, an IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize, and multiple best paper awards at SIGCOMM and Usenix Security. Agarwal loves teaching. He received the 2025 Tau Beta Pi Professor of the Year Award and the James and Mary Tien Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching award from Cornell Engineering for sustained excellence and innovation in engineering education.

Lorenzo Alvisi is the Tisch University Professor in Computer Science and chair of the Department of Computer Science. He is interested in the theory and practice of dependable distributed computing. His group's research aims to understand how to design and build trustworthy distributed systems. Their work investigates both foundational and applied aspects of reliable distributed computing – and at its best – leverages the former to shape the latter. Alvisi received his Laurea Summa cum Laude and Corso di Specializzazione in Physics from the University of Bologna, and his master's degree and Ph.D. in computer science from Cornell University. He is an IEEE Fellow, an ACM Fellow, a Humboldt Research Award winner, and an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow.   

Andrew W. Appel is Eugene Higgins Professor Emeritus and Senior Scholar in the Department of Computer Science at Princeton University, and Visiting Professor at Cornell University. He served from 2009-2015 as Chair of Princeton's CS department. His research is in software verification, computer security, programming languages and compilers, and technology policy (especially voting machines and election systems). He received his A.B. summa cum laude in physicsfrom Princeton in 1981, and his Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1985. Professor Appel is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. He has worked on fast N-body algorithms (1980s), Standard ML of New Jersey (1990s), Foundational Proof-Carrying Code (2000s), the Verified Software Toolchain (2010s),

Yoav Artzi is an associate professor of computer science at Cornell Tech and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. His research focuses on developing models and learning methods for natural language understanding and generation in interactive systems.

Hadar Averbuch-Elor is an assistant professor of computer science at Cornell Tech and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. Averbuch-Elor’s research interests lie in the intersection of computer graphics and computer vision, particularly in combining pixels with more structured modalities, such as natural language and 3D geometry.

Shiri Azenkot is an associate professor of information science at Cornell Tech, the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Kavita Bala is the 17th provost of Cornell University and professor of computer science. Previously, she served as the inaugural dean of the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science and chair of the Department of Computer Science. In her research, she specializes in computer vision and computer graphics, leading research in visual recognition and search; and material modeling and perception. She co-founded GrokStyle, a visual recognition AI company that drew IKEA as a client, and was acquired by Facebook in 2019. Bala is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences (2025), an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Fellow (2019), Fellow of the SIGGRAPH Academy (2020), and recipient of the Computer Graphics Achievement Award (2020).

The Banerjee Lab focuses on data from smartphones and other digital wearable devices, the development of digital applications and interventions for mental health using mHealth data, predictors of health outcomes using big data, and clinical trials in mental and behavioral health.

I'm a Principal Researcher in the New York City lab of Microsoft Research, where I’m a member of the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics in AI (FATE) research group, and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell University, where I co-lead the initiative on Artificial Intelligence, Policy, and Practice (AIPP).

Sumanta Basu is an associate professor of statistics and data science. He is broadly interested in developing statistical machine learning methods for structure learning and prediction of complex, high-dimensional systems arising in biological and social sciences. He is currently working in two areas: (1) network modeling of high-dimensional time series; and (2) detecting high-order interactions in complex biological systems using randomized tree ensembles. He also works closely with scientists and economists on a wide range of problems including prostate cancer progression, large scale metabolomics, and systemic risk monitoring in financial markets.

Natalie Bazarova examines social-psychological and communication processes in social media and mobile interactions, with a particular interest in disclosure and privacy of personal information, wellbeing and mental health, personal relationships and family communication. At Cornell, she is the director of the Social Media Lab hosted by the Department of Communication. Her research has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, United States Department of Agriculture, Cornell Institute for the Social Sciences, and Cornell’s Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research. Natalie enjoys interdisciplinary collaborations, and welcomes collaborators and students from different disciplines.
 

Tapomayukh "Tapo" Bhattacharjee is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University where he directs the EmPRISE Lab. He completed his Ph.D. in robotics from Georgia Institute of Technology and was an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA postdoctoral research associate in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington. He wants to enable robots to assist people with mobility limitations with activities of daily living. His work spans the fields of human-robot interaction, haptic perception, and robot manipulation and focuses on addressing the fundamental research question of how to leverage robot-world physical interactions in unstructured human environments to perform relevant activities of daily living. 

David S. Bindel is a professor of computer science and director of the Center for Applied Math. He works at the interface of computational science and engineering, and his research mixes mathematical analysis, application modeling, and software design. Active research areas include: optimizing stellarators, verified numerics, kernel methods, parallel surrogate optimization, spectral network analysis, nonlinear eigenvalue bounds, and nonlinear waves in resonant MEMS. Bindel received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley and his B.S. in math and computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a SIAM Fellow and Sloan Fellow.
