From vision to action: empowering tech for social good.
The Cornell Summer School on Designing Technology for Social Impact is a weeklong program aimed at cultivating a diverse cohort of emerging researchers interested in the intersection of technology and social equity. The program invites graduate students and rising seniors from various disciplines — including computer science, information science, design, communication, and the arts — to explore design research methods that critically assess and reimagine the societal impacts of information technology.
Participants will engage in workshops and collaborative projects focusing on communities often marginalized in technology design due to race or ethnicity. Through mentorship from Cornell Bowers faculty, networking with peers and experts, and exposure to diverse career pathways, students will gain valuable insights into designing technology for social good. The program also offers guidance on navigating graduate studies and building a supportive academic community.

Program Details
The Summer School is open to rising seniors and students pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees in fields related to designing information technology for social impact. While all students are welcome to apply, we particularly encourage participation from those in STEM fields. Currently, applications are only being accepted from students in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Successful completion of the program is required for applicants to receive their travel stipend, which includes attending all social events during the workshop and orientation.
